Hiking Trails

Nature’s paradise starts right behind the church and the castle. A stroll through gently rolling vineyards leads walkers right to the Föhrenberge nature reserve. The pine-trees growing on the dry dolomite ground fill the light-flooded forest with their scent and give a hint of Mediterranean romance to the landscape.

On the highest peak (576 m), an observation tower (Josefswarte) offers a wonderful panoramic view. Kammersteinerhütte at its foot and Franz Ferdinand Schutzhaus on Parapluieberg (only 15 min. walk away) are two inns well known for their good cuisine. Walkers wending their way across the heath to one of them may well come across a ground squirrel or two. If there is enough snow in winter, the heath turns into a paradise for toboggans and sledges.

The many hiking trails passing Perchtoldsdorf or starting here have a lot to offer for the casual walker and the sporty hill-walker. Well marked hiking trails (such as Fernwanderweg E 4, Nordalpenweg 01, 06 Mariazellerweg) link Perchtoldsdorf with Europe at large.

Numerous inns in the Föhrenberge reserve make sure no walker has to go hungry. They offer attractive destinations for daytrippers and can easily and comfortably be reached on the hiking trail network.
